Review:
I've been looking for the Sengoku Basara Charmates for about half a year, soon after the first season had ended. I found a box of 24 on YesAsia for 125USD shipped and was planning to save up and buy them...however whenever I had enough money I never could really go through with the purchase.
Then one day when I went back to take another look at them, they were gone...I was so disappointed and was kicking myself for not making the purchase earlier. Then in my desperation I started googling far and wide, searching for another opportunity to buy the discontinued figures.
After going through about 30 pages into google search I found a Taiwanese store called 'Madoka Anime'. Here I after using their serch function to look up 'Sengoku Basara' I came up with nothing, so I searched 'Chara' and low and behold I found my sought after charamates. Turns out they spelt 'Sengoku' wrong, instead the store has then as 'Senkokku'.

Since i never heard of this store before I wanted to check them out to make sure they were legitimate. But I was only able to find one review of their store and it was back from 2007. Nevertheless I decided to take the chance and go through checkout with them.
After I got to the paypal step, where they take you directly to the paypal site for checkout, I assumed I had finished the checkout process. However I must not have finished properly because within 24 hrs of submitting my payment I received an email from Madokanime asking for more information on my purchase. Apparently they got my payment but didn't know what I had ordered.
So I quickly sent them a reply email, with the Sengoku Basara products info, the product number, as well as the link to their page selling them. After I sent out the email they replied to me within a few hours letting me know that they had packed and would ship out the next day. I then received another email from Madokanime providing me with the tracking number.
Here's how tracking went:
  • May 14th: Parcel accepted
  • May 16th: Parcel left origin
  • May 20th: Parcel arrives in Vancouver customs
That's the end of tracking info
I recieved the parcel today May 28th, but they didn't update the info even though signature was required.

So my order was package in a thick yellow paper envelop and bubbled wrap extensively, so I'm very happy with the packaging.

Here are items of the original packaging before I opened the parcel:

The charamate were in their original baggies with their fortunes and sealed inside another plastic bag:

I'm pleased with the overall quality of these charamates, in my opinion they are much better than the One Piece chara fortunes I reviewed earlier. But this might be because they required less detailing. The One Piece figures were made to look like the character's actual faces, not deformed to cutness like most charamates/chara fortunes.
But nevertheless there are still not perfect, many of them have gaps between attached parts and the paint is not always smooth. But unlike the One Piece chara fortunes, the 'kid' who painted these seemed to more experienced. They managed to color inside the lines like a 'big kid'.

For 4.55USD shipped each compared to the original ¥300(3.33USD) price tag it seems to be not too expensive. However like the One Piece charamates these figures should be more reasonablly price at ¥200(2.22USD) instead.

Overall my ratings are:
Madokanime
Customer Service: 9/10 (checkout on the site seems to be problematic)
Shipping: 9/10 (could have included the original wrappers)

Product
Sengoku Charamate: 7.5/10 (could have been better quality)

Review:
So this was a pretty much an impulse purchase, I've been looking for Sengoku Basara charamate for a really long time, and just went on ebay to check again if they had any...they did not. But in my search I ended up running into the One Piece charamates. There were several reasons why I ended up with this impulse purchase:
  1. I'm a really big One Piece fan
  2. Couldn't resist Zoro in a suit
  3. They were 25%off
All that combine with had moderate shipping...why not?

So with shipping they come to 3.65USD each, slightly higher than the retail price of ¥300(3.33USD) without shipping. So the price was pretty reasonable. Plus this way I don't have to buy an entire box to find one set, then waste my time trying to sell off the rest I don't need.

I expected them to use a cheap shipping method therefore it wouldn't have to go through customs and I would have my parcel within the week. However it turns out they ship with 'registered letter' which includes signature confirmation( and tracking).
However as I began to wonder where by parcel was it finally arrived it today and to my surprise there was tracking...intriguing, since they didn't send me a tracking number after I bought it...
Since it took more than two week to arrive I decided to check out what had happen using the tracking number this is the info I found:
No mention of when the HK post office received the parcel
May 16th: left Hong Kong
May 18th: arrived in Vancouver customs
May25th: out for delivery
Which means it was in customs for 7 days, since all my mail from Vancouver arrives the day after it arrives.
I don't know what been going on with Canada Post lately, but they've been holding my packages for days, and this time a whole week. Usually my stuff goes through customs in a couple of minutes...but these last few months...*shakes head*

Anyways I got the package in a mustard yellow fibrous sturdy envelop. The charamates figures and their fortunes were all in their original plastic baggy sealed with tape grouped into a sandwich zip-lock bag and bubble wrapped.
They also included the original wrappers. I didn't expect them to include these...since I really have to use for them, but I guess it was good since it make the figures look much more legitimate. I might have seriously doubted have their authenticity otherwise.

Original fununiverse packaging:

These are my very first charamate/chara fortune figures, so I was very excited to receive them. After seeing so many of the super cute figures stock photos megahouse has released I think expected to be awed. But after today, seeing them physically first hand I'm somewhat disappointed.
  • The paint quality is poor to mediocre:
  • -paint is uneven
  • -paint is not where it should be(it's like some kid can't color inside the lines)
  • Fasteners are cheap quality, not even the kinda I use for my home made charms
  • Some figures have gaps between attached sections

For ¥300(3.33USD) charms I expect better quality even if it's made in china. Shame on Megahouse for poor supervision of the Chinese labor. They are overpriced at ¥300(3.33USD) these charms would be more reasonable at a ¥200(2.22) price point.

Overall my ratings are:
Product: 7/10

Customer Service: 9/10 (would have been nice to know the tracking)
Shipping: 8/10 (could have been ship in a box instead)
Store Overall [fununiverse]: 8/10

P.S: I did end up finding the Sengoku Basara Charamate, the day after I bought these I found a online Taiwanese anime shop selling sets, they've been ship and are currently in Vancouver customs since May 20th, so from past expirence I'm expecting them this Thursday, I'll post a review of the store and the charamate once they arrive
